Nov 5, 2015 12:32 PM in response to Melquiades38by SlickRick,Not sure to be honest, but this is the correct memory for the computer. This company is very reliable. I bought my memory from them.

Nov 5, 2015 1:10 PM in response to SlickRickby Melquiades38,Maybe this one from Crucial could be right too http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00LTV2BBK?keywords=ram%20pc3%2014900&qid=144675 7736&ref_=sr_1_4&sr=8-4

Nov 5, 2015 1:16 PM in response to Melquiades38by Bringer42,Melquiades38 ,
That RAM looks good to me.
The three things to look for are
- DDR3 - kind of memory
- PC-1866 - speed
- SO-DIMM - form factor (size/shape)If you see those 3 things it will work.

Nov 6, 2015 2:34 PM in response to Bringer42by SillyGuy,Has anyone found a 32gb (2x16gb) kit that works for this iMac, other than the OWC option?
-
Nov 6, 2015 5:49 PM in response to SillyGuyby Joe Siegler,Yes I did, SillyGuy.
My iMac is a Late 2015 27" Retina Display. Bought 32Gb of Ram from Crucial, and installed it. Replaced the 8Gb that was in there (and keeping it, in case I run into a problem). Anyway, this is what I got:

Amazon is selling this too, but they're having an issue keeping it in stock, which tells me others are buying it too.

Nov 7, 2015 9:39 AM in response to Bringer42by Kaunosario,@Bringer42, have you tried installing your Crucial RAM alongside the existing Apple RAM? I have not yet received my new iMac but already bought 2x8GB of the same Crucial RAM. I was hoping to upgrade from the stock 8GB to 24GB.
-
Nov 7, 2015 10:29 AM in response to Kaunosarioby Bringer42,No. I completely replaced the original ram with 2 pairs of 8Gb modules.
But what you describe should work fine. Just be sure to alternate the modules (e.g. Apple-Crucial-Apple-Crucial). That will happen automatically if you leave the Apple memory in the slots it comes in.
The worst that might happen is that Crusual memory may be slowed down to the speed of the Apple memory. But that difference would be imperceptible.

Nov 7, 2015 10:40 AM in response to Bringer42by Kaunosario,I contacted Crucial Support and they advise against using Ballistix Sport RAM with the new iMac. I'm not sure what to make of that. Clearly people like yourself are using it successfully. Sounds to me like they want us to wait for something more expensive.

Nov 7, 2015 11:15 AM in response to anshumgby SteveW25561,I can confirm that the Crucial Ballistix RAM I linked to on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSGLMSM (Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1866 (PC3-14900) 204-Pin SODIMM Memory BLS2K8G3N18AES4 / BLS2C8G3N18AES4) seems to work perfectly in my late 2015 5K iMac. I put them each into the original spots where the pre-installed Apple RAM was, then the Apple RAM in the alternate slots.
Thus:
==== iMac monitor ====
Apple RAM
Ballistix 8 GB
Apple RAM
Ballistix 8 GB
=== iMac Foot ======
Thus, you can see the Ballistix RAM is listing as the same 1867 MHz as the Apple 4GB modules.
I suspect the Crucial rep advised against the Ballistix is that is hasn't been specifically tested on the new iMac and I'd bet they routinely only recommend actual tested modules.
I'm comfortable with this small risk since the spec matches other than the single Mhz (1866 vs 1867) but as another poster mentions, this is likely just Apple's rounding.

Nov 7, 2015 12:23 PM in response to SteveW25561by Kaunosario,Thanks Steve. This is reassuring. How long have you been running your new iMac in this configuration. Btw, here's what Crucial Support wrote to me: "Most Ballistix modules do not have typical memory latencies and voltages that Apple systems use and unfortunately Apple systems can be a bit picky. It's possible the Ballistix parts will work, but we cannot guarantee it."

Nov 7, 2015 12:29 PM in response to Kaunosarioby SteveW25561,Interesting. Sounds like a well thought out reply.
I only just installed the Ballistix RAM last night and the system has been running 24h since, as I am transferring over a huge 2.5 TB home folder. So far the system seems rock solid, with no crashes or glitches, or errors. There's plenty of IO operations happening right now via USB3 and Thunderbolt as well as WiFi.
If I get instability or random errors, I'll post back. Thinking about buying Techtool pro 8 and seeing if its memory test is useful or not.
