My iPod touch 3rd generation was at about 10% battery life so I charged it. About half an hour later I picked it up - it was very very hot. It would then and has not since turned on. How can I fix this?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The hotness tends to indicate a hardware problem.
Thanks IIIaass, I've seen this response a few times. Can you tell me if overheating when charging an iPod, for even 30 seconds, would generally mean a replacement battery is needed?
When left charging for an hour it will still not turn on, its just very hot.
That typically means a bad battery but can be other hardware problem too.
