Microsoft Windows on an iMac

Hello! 😕

Can one format the hard drive on a Mac and then load ONLY a Microsoft operating system from an installation disc ..... and have it up and running just as simply as one can do so on a conventional computer?

Advice will be much appreciated.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Yes. That is possible.

It is ill-adive however. If you only have Windows installed and Apple upgrades the firmware for your Mac there is even likelihood you will not be able to do it with out running OS X.

Instead my suggestion would be to put OS X into as small of a partition as possible so that just in case you need it you have it. If you are always booted from Windows, OS X in a small partition will have no effect on Windows.
