AMD Radeon R9 M390 graphics processor?
When would I need the M390?

Do you mean there are games that only run with the M380 – and NOT with the M390?
Shouldn't the 256 bit version be able to "emulate" the 128 bit version...?

Yes you are correct - any game that runs on the M380 will run fine and even better on the M390. However there are some games which might have a minimum requirement for an M390 class GPU. When speaking of graphics I always go with a better card even if it's marginally better (the 390 is more than marginally better than the 380).
