Calendar event created using event in email not syncing with gmail calendar

Using iphone calendar app, when I create an event by clicking on a date in an email using the iphone mail app it doesn't sync on my desktop gmail calendar.

However, when I create an event using the iphone event app without copying over event details from an email it does sync on my desktop calendar.

Any suggestions?
