Q: Space Management: Photostream on iPhone

I have 279 photos on my iPhone 5. They have already gone to iCloud, then been downloaded into Photos on my Mac. Just what I want them to do. But I don't want them on my iPhone anymore, hogging space. Am I supposed to delete them manually??

iPhone Settings:

iCloud Photo Library - Off

My Photo Stream - On (to upload my photos)

iCloud Photo Sharing - Off

iPhone 5, iOS 9.0.2

I've just turned off photo stream entirely. What I wanted was photo stream to upload but not download. But if I cannot manage the number of downloaded photos, I'll just sync manually instead.

If you want to use "My Photo Stream" to transfer new photos to your Mac, after confirming they've been saved to your Mac's library you can safely delete them from your My Photo Stream (and your iPhone's Camera Roll).

Did you edit your post? In the email, you talked about the image resolution reduction performed by shared photo streams.  I had not thought to check my uploaded image quality. In general, it would be dishonest for any software service to change (reduce) the quality of images WITHOUT alerting the user to that change!!!

Yes I did edit my post shortly after submitting it ... looking at the official Apple document confirmed that My Photo Stream is full resolution on your computer, it is just reduced resolution on iOS devices.  I was recalling incorrectly, so I corrected my post.

However, Shared Photo Streams are reduced resolution, even on your computer, but those are streams that you share with others (so presumably you have the originals) or streams that others share with you (in which case you'd have to ask for the full resolution copy if interested).
