How to use minimal data while travelling from Canada to US?

I have an Iphone 6 - I'll be travelling from Canada to US and have paid for unlimited talk, text and 200mb of data. I have a few questions:

1. I'm wondering how to use the least amount of background data as possible while away.They told me at the store to make sure my data roaming is turned on (since I do plan to use it) but do I need to go into each app and turn off cellular data?

2. Is there a way I might monitor what I've used while away so I don't go over the 200mb?

3. Off topic: does anyone know how much data the Runkeeper app might use during a run?

So grateful for the help! Certainly not my area of expertise and I usually just leave my phone at home to avoid hefty bills!

Just turn it off in Settings. If you use an app that needs a data connection it will give you an error message that data are not available. Then just turn it back on while using that app.

Hi Kappy.

To monitor your usage, reset your cellular data usage when you leave the U.S.

Go to settings / cellular.

Scroll down to the bottom. Select reset statistics.

Starting off at 0 mb, you will be able to monitor your usage.

Go to Settings/Cellular and turn off non-essential apps. You don't even have to reset statistics, as there is a separate bucket for roaming data. And you can also get the Dataman app, which will monitor usage and alert you if you get near a limit.
