How can I prevent genius data from syncing with my ipod touch?

If I do turn off genius data will that alone stop syncing genius data? Do I have to delete the genius mixes itunes made?

Once I turn it off will I have to do anything on my ipod to turn off and kind of genius or to delete existing genius data or will that delete the next time I sync my ipod with itunes? Do I need to turn off genius for apps?

Will turning off genius affect my songs in any negative way or cause corruption of any kind with my ipod, its music app, or itunes?
