Q: Calendar won't add .ics attachments in El Capitan

I use my MBP for work, and the Calendar has always had issues with invitations from Outlook. Now with El Capitan, it has gotten much worse. *.ics attachments, both from Outlook and WebEx (all I've tried so far), are not being added to my calendar. I am getting the following error in Console:

10/13/15 3:19:47.927 PM Calendar[21195]: [com.apple.calendar.store.log.itip] [request:  Ignoring message because calendars exist, but they are all subscribed calendars: 040000008200E00074C5B7101A82E008000000009069575FC705D10100000000000000001000000 0AE4F508476783C4483CECD992D5D2DC5]

I have several calendars on iCloud: 3 personal calendars, 3 shared calendars, and 3 subscriptions. I also have 2 Gmail calendars, Facebook, and 3 "Other" calendars put in by OS X.

Using QuickLook displays the event in a pop-up window, but then clicking the "Open" button results in the same error from above.

I am able to add these events to my calendar on my iPad, but I should be able to do it on my Mac, and right now, I can't.

I'm on Chat now with Apple, and they seem stumped.

After an hour with Apple Support in a Chat, no progress was made in resolving this.

I finally solved it by doing a complete reset of my calendar.

    1. Backup ~/Library/Calendars/

    2. Turn off Calendar in iCloud Preferences

    3. Delete the contents of ~/Library/Calendars/

    4. Delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist

    5. Open Calendar, giving me 2 fresh calendars on my Mac. (Also tested to confirm it could import *.ics files)

    6. Turn on Calendar in iCloud Preferences

    7. Logging out and back in.

After all of that, my iCloud Calendars were back, and my email event invitations were being processed again!

Thanks for the information. That solution is a bit too destructive and invasive, in particular, because it creates even more calendars. My conclusion is that .ics files cannot be opened in Mac Calendar.
