I just reinstalled OS 10.7 on an old iMac. Now can't start up Safari 5.1 from the desktop. I tried again, no success. Upgraded to 10.7.5, still unable to boot Safari. Suggestions??

You shouldn't be opening any version of Safari from the desktop. On Mac OS X 10.7.5, you should be opening Safari 6.1.6 from the Dock or the Applications folder.
