EndNote x7 crashes with and without MS Word 11 for Mac

Has anyone found a solution to EndNote x7 crashes? This is the first time I've ever had such a problem.

I have uninstalled EndNote x7. I have reinstalled EndNote7. I have gone back in my Time Machine to find an earlier version, replaced the new one with it, and it still crashes. I am using EndNote 6 to at least access my library. When I open Word, I still see 7, and it tries to open 7, which, again, crashes.

I'm wondering if my recent update to El Capitan has some bearing on this. Is there a way I can restore from Time Machine both programs without having to reinstall MS Word 11? Doing so is a huge hassle.
