Can't upload music from itunes to phone after recent update

I recently updated software versions on both my iTunes and iPhone 5 through my Mac desktop computer. Now when I go to upload music from my iTunes onto my iPhone, my iTunes keeps coming up with a message that I need to upgrade software before I can do anything because it's no longer compatible. As a result I cant transfer any music from my iTunes to iPhone but I can't upgrade something I've already upgraded.

Does anyone know how I might be able to fix this? I need new music on my phone stat! 😟
