Q: I dont know my password, why is itunes asking me for my password in order to restore

I recently found my iPod and I'm trying to restore it since I don't have my password, iTunes said its okay to restore without password. Why is it that it needs a password in order to restore?

iPod touch, iOS 8.4.1

Password for what exactly? If the iPod was signed into iCloud then yo have to enter the PW for the last ID used i Settings>iCloud.
