OSX 10.6.8..iMac 27..when booting gets to Apple Logo then to a "canceled circle"...any attempt to reinstall the OS.. there is inability to reboot..If trying to boot from a DVD it results in an Apple Logo with a repetitive long tones? Suggestions?

Serious hardware problem. Please make an appointment at the Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar and take it in for service. If you are not in the USA or cannot set up an appointment this way, then contact your local Apple Store directly.

Thanks...I did do a system hardware check and it indicated there were no hardware problems...BUT I do feel that your advice is correct.😟
