MPG to iMovie??

Hey everybody!

I'm asking about this topic because all of the other similar posts are from years ago.

I'm running El Capitan, MacBook Pro retina mid 2014 and the latest software. Can I get my .mpg to import to iMovie so I can edit it?? I coulda sworn I saw the answer being yes when I googled it but I can't get it to work?!
