how to get messages sent when phone was off

My phone died and it took several hours before I was able to get a new one. How do I get the imessages sent to me during the time when the phone was off? I've activated the new phone, and restored everything from the most recent backup (yesterday), but the messages that I know were sent to me during this 3 hour window are no where to be fou
