App Download Freezing at 99% on ITunes 12.3.0.44 and Windows 8.1 (64bit)

I spent over two days and also nearly 15 hours to fix the problem.

This Problem ist unsolved - even through the Apple Support

I really need your help...because the support can't help me and i did really EVERYTHING the user turingstest2 reccomends in his posts.

I deinstalled Itunes (All Programs, even hidden files in AppData), created a second Windows User, opened a new ITunes Library, deactivated the Virus program, started ITunes with secured mode, deleted all app files...no effect. Let me describe my problem to get - I hope - helpful answers.

Exact Problem Description

When I try to load apps through my Itunes Account on my Windows PC (8.1/ 64bit) from the cloud or also new Apps, the Downloading process stopps at 99% and the data remains as a temporary file in the download folder under ITunes Media. When that happens, it freezes also ITunes. It does not matter If I download just one or several apps. AS soon as the first app is loaded up to 99%, it freezes ITunes - Computer works fine. Sometimes it happens that ITunes starts to work after 4-5 Minutes and the App is succesfully copied in the Applications Folder. But then sometimes there is no Cover of the App shown in ITunes.

The strange thing is, that loading music data works without any problem. It downloads and copies the files fast - ITunes works properly. The same thing with movies. There it failes only sometimes. Besides of the Downloads, ITunes works very fast and good.

How I Run ITunes & PC

I have all ITunes data on my Synology NAS DS214play. I even changed my NAS, copied and scaned all the files on it - no problems. All other Data and all the other functions of ITunes work fine. I use a Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 an the standard Router Internet-Box plus from Swisscom (Switzerland).

Some Questions I Have

Could it be a Problem with the Internet-Box or NAS Settings?

Could it be a problem with the Kaspersky Antivirus? (I deactivated it during installation and use).

Your problem is likely related to using NAS storage. Temporarily reset your iTunes Media folder to the standard path (or any folder on locally connected storage) without consolidating the library. Can you download apps without iTunes freezing now?

I don't know how the permissions are set up on the NAS, but take a quick look at Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows. There is also a possibility that for some reason the code that handles a downloaded app is using a different file moving routine which doesn't work properly when the media folder is on a NAS.

Thanks for your reply...i tried two things and what happened is really strange:

- Changing folder path to local storage (D:\\): The Downloads were faster and ITunes only freezed for a few seconds. The Problem with missing app and film covers was the same. But a new error ocured: Missing network connectivity -3150. After clicking a second or third time, the apps loaded without any problem.

- Changing folder path to normal (C:\\ITunes) & Working with a news ITunes library: The same as with number one. The difference was, that all movie covers in the cloud showed up - app covers were missing too. When I changed the library back to my old one - the film covers were all here?!?

Does these results help you for further solution ideas?

Sadly I don't have access to what really goes on under the hood, but I know iTunes isn't really set up to work with NAS. Not long ago there were a series of reports about the difficulties of updating mobile apps stored on NAS. As I recall switching things around so that the media folder was represented by a drive letter rather than a UNC path helped some. Personally I would recommend you place your library in a portable shape on a locally connected drive and use the NAS as backup to the primary copy. See Make a split library portable for information on manipulating the library.
