how can I upgrade from snow leopard to mavericks. I don't see mavericks in the app store

I am trying to upgrade my imac from snow leopard to mavericks. The information I found suggests that i should be able to purchase it from the app store but I do not see it available. How can I access it?

iMac, iOS 6.1.6, operating with Mac OS 10.6.8
