Non Secure Jabber Log In

Hello Apple Support Community. I have recnetly upgraded to El Capitan. I am now getting a strange error message when I log into Messages. "Non Secure Jabber Log In. Your user name and password will be sent in a way that is not secure. Do you still wish to connect to xmpp.l.google.com?" I am using a google jabber account related to my gmail account. Can anyone help me with this error? Am I at risk of exposing my gmail password?
