    Greetings mickhd7,

It sounds as if the Notes application on your MacBook Air is quitting unexpectedly. Is that right?

The first thing I would like to try to troubleshoot this issue is to boot into safe mode. See this article - Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up. Once booted into safe mode, try Notes again. Does it function normally? Now restart the computer again not using safe mode. Does Notes work now?

If safe mode did not fix the issue, or it worked in safe mode but not after restarting normally, the next step would be to test Notes in a new user account. See this article - How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.

Let me know the results of these tests and we see where we need to go from there.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Be well.

I'm experiencing the same problem - and it's not specific to Notes. The same error occurs for Notes, iTunes, Safari, Mail, and the App Store.

It's not exactly the same error every time, but the exception type and the exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException' are common across all applications.

I'm having a similar problem. The Notes.app opens fine, I can type text and it'll sync, but every time I try dropping a web link from Safari into a note, it just freezes and I get a beachball.

I'm having the same problem.  I restarted in Safe Mode, which didn't fix the problem.  When I restarted again, it worked temporarily while I had no internet access.  As soon as I regained internet access, it crashed.  Then I created a new user account and opened it up and worked fine.  I added my iCloud user information and it still worked fine.  Then, I logged back in to my main account, removed iCloud and re-signed in, but Notes still crashed.  Interestingly the only time it worked when I was signed on to the main account was when I didn't have any internet access.

So I have been experiencing this same issue since the latest update/patch for El Capitan. But as another user pointed out - this problem is not isolated to just the "Notes" app, it's also persisting across my Mail, Safari, and Messages apps as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, but at this point I would just prefer that a fix be released as quickly as possibly.

System details included below (if that helps):

Quick Update: I was able to resolve all of my issues simply by removing all Mail accounts EXCEPT for my one iCloud account.

I had several accounts configured, but all of the others were Gmail accounts.

So I'm not really sure why something so simple would create so many issues, but I haven't had a crash since making the change.

Keep in mind, I'm using to having applications crash on me constantly since this issue began (at least once every couple of hours).

My fix was simple, turn off wireless or unplug your ethernet cable and do the following:

    1. Open Mail -> Preferences -> Select "Accounts"

    2. Remove all accounts EXCEPT for your iCloud account

    3. Exit the Mail application

    4. Enable wireless or plug in ethernet cable again

    5. Enjoy

For me, simply removing the Notes option from my Microsoft Exchange account did the trick. I don't need my notes from Exchange anyway.
