Can I connect my MacBook Air to my Vizio Smart TV?

I have a 13-inch (mid-2013) MacBook Air running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5, Processor 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 of Memory with 5 GB of storage free.

I have videos on my computer that aren't on YouTube and I was wondering if there was a way to view them on my Vizio E700i-B3 Smart TV.

If you already have a recent HDMI cable, then you will need aMini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. There is also a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI cable that skips the adapter.

Plug the HDMI into one of the Vizio HDMI ports and using the TV controls, switch to that port. If you MacBook AIr is sleeping with lid closed, connect either the adapter and cable, or the cable into the Mini DisplayPort. The MBA will then auto-detect the connection, and your OS X display is now on the Vizio. Play your video.
