Can I still use imessage on my iPhone if I'm no longer with my carrier, but have access to wifi?

You should be able to - I presume you are still able to sign into the phone using your Apple ID?
I'm able to sign in, however I keep getting the message to verify my email address, I am then redirected to the apple website to verify my email address and I see that my email address is already verified. Everything was working fine until I updated the software about 30 minute ago.
Go through the motions to verify it again and see if it "takes"
