Jan 7, 2016 12:44 PM in response to Irene in Tucsonby Jane1944,Irene In Tucson, You must realize by now that Apple doesn't care about their massive software problems? I suspect you are new to this thread? Read on (endlessly) about El Capitan. Money was never a problem for me. I would buy the next newest and greatest from Apple. Now, (sadly) I won't.

Jan 8, 2016 3:00 PM in response to 49_FiveWindowby bjorge,Same issue as everyone here, system completely locks up for a few minutes after closing a YouTube tab in Safari on my 13" 2013 rMBP. This must be a Safari issue because I've had no problems at all with Chrome. Luckily I've actually come to prefer Chrome over Safari now, but it's still an issue that needs addressing.

It does appear to be at the point in time. When I first had the problem in early 2015 with Yosemite I had them in Chrome as well as Safari. I stopped using Chrome for a while and - while I haven't used it extensively enough to guarantee I'm not having issues now - I haven't been able to get Chrome to crash/freeze when closing tabs with running videos since upgrading to El Capitan. It looks like nobody's having tab closing video issues with Chrome in El Capitan anymore so all eyes are back on Safari.

Jan 9, 2016 3:29 AM in response to palegreenghostsby palegreenghosts,Just to add something to the diagnosis that I forgot to mention before:
Embedded HTML5 videos from Vimeo sometimes appear garbled without me clicking them. I'll just scroll past them and they have the look of a graphics glitch where the normal image is diagonalised and discoloured. If I reload the page they appear normal again. I haven't seen this with embedded YouTube videos. They're both HTML5 but I haven't checked if they're using the same codec (I would have thought so given the limits and standards of HTML5). I haven't noticed it for any content other than embedded Vimeo yet.

Jan 13, 2016 12:11 AM in response to 49_FiveWindowby benjaminfromandelu,Hi All,
Same issue as everyone : when using Safari, depending on the www site I'm connected, my iMac late 2009 freezes. It happens to me since the El Captain upgrade , two weeks ago. I will try investigate deeper, but no so easy...
Cheers

Jan 19, 2016 6:07 AM in response to benjaminfromandeluby need2know,I also have this problem, happens on any high graphics web site - most notably some newspapers I read on line & eBay. I have not had the same problem with YouTube.
I had a clean install of El Capitan, have deleted all cookies and browser history, have no extensions. Running El Capitan 10.11.12 on 2009 iMac.
I now use Firefox, slightly slower but very reliable and gives me no problems whatsoever. Safari really isn't worth the hassle any more - just very frustrating as it used to be a good browser. Wish Apple would do something about this, too many have a problem for it to be coincidence.

Jan 19, 2016 6:18 AM in response to balukapitanyby balukapitany,I've given up with Safari.
After the problem occurred nearly every second or third video from youtube, I cleared my Macbook, and reinstalled it via internet recovery, and upgraded to the latest El Capitan version. I've installed only 3 applications: Spotify, iTerm2 and USB Overdrive, and hoped that the problem resolves itself.
After ~2 hours of browsing, the freeze occurred again - after a Youtube video.
I downloaded Chrome, disabled the built-in flash plugin (you can configure this at: chrome://plugins/). I've been using the other browser for about a month now, and my computer never stuck again.
I really hope a new OS update will resolve this problem, but I don't know if I'll go back to Safari...

Jan 19, 2016 6:31 AM in response to balukapitanyby Grant Lenahan,Hello,
I see lots and lots of folks state "clean install of x.11". This surprises me, since the vast majority of people in fact upgrade.
Can someone tell me what exactly *you* mean by "clean install"?
TIA,
Grant

Jan 19, 2016 6:35 AM in response to Grant Lenahanby need2know,Hm - not sure what he did, but my son did it for me. I think he made sure I had an up to date time machine back up then completely wiped my hard drive, installed El Capitan and then installed everything else from time machine. Anyway, I think that's what he did. I am sure others on here can inform you more fully.

Jan 19, 2016 6:38 AM in response to Grant Lenahanby villovsky,IN my case: crearing a bootable flash drive and installing OS X from it. No recovering from any backup, just copying documents from externall hdd back to MBA. All apps manually reinstalled. And safari still freezes from time to time

Jan 19, 2016 6:40 AM in response to Grant Lenahanby balukapitany,For me:
- Shut down machine
- Start internet recovery.
- Start disk utility, erase/format the ssd, delete partitions and recreate
- Clink on install OSX, select the new partition
- This installs Yosemite for my machine (2014 model)
- Register Apple ID, and download El Capitan from App store
(No time machine device was plugged in during the update, nor after the testing. No config files were restored to home or any folder)

Jan 19, 2016 6:44 AM in response to 49_FiveWindowby rachelefromulster park,Same issue here. Have tried all the possible fixes in the reply and still have the same problem. No problem at all with with iPhone or with iPad, just with my Mac. VERY frustrating. For some reason I freeze up on Yahoo Mail. Also, with Facebook, when I open a photo I can't get back to Home on Facebook. I have to re-open Facebook. Do I want to use Chrome on my Mac? Safari has always been good up until I installed El Capitan. Should have waited for Apple to work out all the bugs first.
Also, my WiFi enabled printer stopped working and I had to download AirDrop LITE. Why? I should be able to use my printer from my Mac. I use it from my iPhone and from my iPad with no problems.
El Capitan is a bust as far as I am concerned. Takes forever to open from Sleep Mode also. NEVER used to do this.

Jan 19, 2016 6:47 AM in response to balukapitanyby Grant Lenahan,Thanks to all of you for prompt answers. Sounds like true clean installs.
I was wondering if we had different terminology and interpretations, but it appears, no.

Jan 19, 2016 6:48 AM in response to balukapitanyby villovsky,Could you please give me more details about "internet recovery" you mentioned? Will it put back Mavericks to my MBA and allow me to upgrade just to Yosemite?

Jan 19, 2016 7:00 AM in response to need2knowby need2know,I thought I should let people know, I also turned off LCD font smoothing, but it has done nothing to help the situation. Same freeze occurring.
