How do I get video off of Sony Handycam DCR-SX65

I am able to see my movie perfectly on the built-in screen on the Sony Handycam.

I connected the memory card to my Mac and it is telling me that nothing is there and finds no files. The finder says there is 16 GB available of 16 GB. (I was expecting to find a file containing the movie, but no, that would be too easy.)

I then connected the camera using a USB cable, and attempt to import. iMovie says, "None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again."

Using iMovie 10.1 and OS 10.9.5 on a Mac Pro.

Thanks

According to the Apple site iMovie 10.1 is compatible with OSX 10.10.5 or later.

I didn't think it was possible to update an App that was not compatible with the OS???

I've seen mistakes like this happen before. For example, OS 10.9 incorrectly identified iMovie HD 06 as not compatible. But it is compatible.

I rechecked, I do indeed have iMovie 10.1 and OS 10.9.5. I am not ready to switch over to El Capitan yet, I need to clone my existing drive and make multiple backups. Assuming that iMovie 10.1 is compatible with OS 10.9.5. ( I have received no indications otherwise ) can you help me?

I was very surprised that when I plug the memory card directly into my Mac that the Finder says there is nothing there. I wonder why this is. I have a Canon still camera, which also takes movies, when I plug its memory card into my Mac all of the images and movies are on the memory card as files which are easy to edit and manipulate.

I thought I would answer my own question in case someone else comes across this issue in the future.

It turns out that the Sony DCR-SX65 has its own internal memory in addition to the plug-in memory card. When I plug a USB cable into the camera I can select which memory I want to access using the screen on the Sony camera. When I select internal memory, (not very well described) iMovie 10.1 immediately imported the video.

I now have a bunch of .mov files that I will import into iMovie HD 06, because the editing in iMovie HD 06 is much, much, much, easier.

Thanks to all.
