Why do I get a message saying that a USB device was drawing too much power and that is was therefore disabled. First time that happened. I think my battery needs to be replaced but one would think that if it is plugged in there is enough power for anything.

Alright. But how come the USB has that problem now. I never encountered the problem before. And I tried two different USB ports on my MacBookPro. If you have any additional insight I appreciate it. Thanks anyway.
I figured. It is my Nikon camera, same camera for years, charged full. Interesting because the camera is turned off when I plug in the USB cable, but the warning message pops up the minute I plug it in. Maybe there something wrong with the cable ...
yes I tried to plug in the camera on both USB ports with the same result. I just tried a new cable and it is working. So it was apparently a problem with the cable. Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer to my inquiry.
All it means is that a device (or combination of devices) is drawing more power than the USB port can supply.
What do you have plugged into it? It's whatever device is plugged in that's trying to draw power...
What is the exact model/year MBP that you have and what is the USB device in question?
Have you tried other devices in the same USB ports?

You may have had a short in the cable. That would cause the cable to "request" as much power as the port could give.
