Q: macbook won't connect to apple tv

I have the latest OS X El Capitan, i have been trying to connect my macbook air to my apple tv but it just can't seem to pick it up at all via wireless. When i go into my display presences at the bottom of the screen it will show air play then the off option, however it does not give me the option of the apple tv. i do have them both connected to the correct Wifi but i don't know where else to go or what else to do.

If someone could help me that would be great!

Thank you!

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device.
