    Hello CongJosh,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that Mail is not behaving as expected as it becomes unresponsive and is not receiving incoming messages. To begin troubleshooting this situation, I suggest reading over and working through the information in the following article.

If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac - Apple Support

If Mail is only becoming unresponsive when you are selecting certain messages, the following article may be of use to you as well.

If Mail unexpectedly quits when viewing certain messages - Apple Support

    Have a great day!

I am also having some ridiculous Mail issues.

I'm using multiple IMAP accounts, hosted with a service called Rackspace.

I am only having issues with one account in particular though. Mail does not download any new messages, but I can send without a problem from this account.

I left my office last night with Mail running, and when returned this morning, the memory usage had shot up to over 52GB! I only have 16GB installed in the machine. I was finally able to get all the apps closed down, then restart. After restart, I reopened Mail, and the memory usage continued to climb again.

I had this issue last week, but after I disabled iCloud Drive and Mail Drop for that account, everything seemed to be functioning properly again. The issue started happening again yesterday, and iCloud Drive and Mail Drop are both disabled.

I'm not sure if it's related, but during the installation of El Capitan, my computer restarted in the middle, with a loud "beep" sound, then took an additional 45 minutes or more to complete the install. Everything seemed to work properly after the install, but it was a little strange.

Check out this thread. Linc's suggestion towards the bottom solved my issue.

Do a backup, preferably 2 on 2 separate drives.

    Quit Mail.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.

Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

If that doesn’t solve it repeat the above using Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent.
