Dreamweaver cs 6 crashing on el captain

Since updating to OS X 10.11 (El Capitain), Adobe Dreamweaver crashes any time I try to use the Save As menu, or even open a file. It also crashes intermittently when editing a file. Yes, I am using the legacy Java 6, without which you can't even open the app.

Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions or work-arounds?

Phil

- also Office 2011 is broken, but everyone knows that, it seems.

Adobe has not said CS6 is compatible with 10.11.

you can try resetting the application preferences by opening the application from the actual icon in your Applications folder
Holding down SHIFT+CTRL+OPT+CMD while selecting it.

, this will not work with the dock icon or a shortcut)

If this does not change the behavior you can create a new account, boot into that account and see if it works.
CS6 is 3 versions back and there may not be further support at this time and you might try the Adobe forums (where I was just run in circles for the past 8 days before I figured it out on my own)

MS has addressed a single issue in Office 2011 that caused Outlook to hang when syncing. They have not announced they with release further patches. 2016 is the current mac version of Office, there are reported issues with that as well but 2011 is 2 versions behind and there may not be further support at this time.

If you have a time machine backup you can restore to an earlier instance of your OS where your software was better behaved, otherwise to downgrade you would need to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS if it's is available to you then restore the data from a backup.

Thanks, Jimmy. I tried the preference re-set you suggested, but it didn't work. Dreamweaver opens and I can edit and save existing files, but cannot save anything as a new file. I can work around that by creating new files by making copies of old ones from the Finder. File/Save does work on open files. All a short-term solution. There are probably other problems that I just haven't run into yet.

OS X upgrades have usually been compatible with older apps, especially those from MS and Adobe. I know there are newer versions of the ones I use, but I've been getting by very well without the upgrades, which (especially for Adobe) are often quite expensive.

Office 2011 has bigger problems than Outlook. Word, for example, will open a document, but crashes if you try to edit it. Hopefully, an Office update will fix this.

I had upgraded, but downgraded this evening using the most recent backup of Yosemite. Too many essential apps were broken by El Capitan without sufficient benefits from the upgrade to justify spending hundreds of dollars upgrading apps that were working just fine with Yosemite. I still have another Mac running El Capitan so will see how Apple and software upgrades address the issues I've been having.

This is the first time in my 20 years of Mac usage that I've ever downgraded a Mac OS. I've never had one break this many essential apps before. Most unusual!

Thanks for your help, Jimmy.

not a problem. Adobe is bent on getting everyone they can on a monthly payment plan for Creative Cloud. I've had to downgrade about a half dozen iMacs that came in to keep them compatible with with CS5.5 after we found issues with the OS X flavors they shipped with. Unfortunalty Apple HW can complicate your downgrade path and in some cases it's not possible to any degree.

Good luck.

We had issues with CS6 and Yosemite that we could reproduce on brand new systems un-imaged and out of the box. A workflow can vary from user to user and a specific task performed by one user and not another can be the focal point of the issue, so can interactions with other necessary components. In either case Adobe is not saying they support CS6 on El Capitan.

If it works for you you've won the Adobe lottery, but it varies from user to user according to the posts on Adobes site and here.
