Do i need to remove my antivirus before upgrading to el capitan

I just bought a used macbook pro md103ll/a, running os lion and was wondering if i need to remove my antivirus before upgrading to el capitan or will it upgrade without affecting my antivirus since its the only thing installed on my macbook pro.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Anti virus software on the Mac cause more problems than they solve. Disable or remove it.

And as we discuss upgrading, in fact most of the problems people are having are due to old software that is not compatible.

You should also have at least 4GB of RAM in order to get decent performance.

And always have a good backup!
