osxreserved partition did NOT go away after install

Hi,

I have a brand-new 13" MacBook Pro with El Capitan on it. I used Boot Camp Assistant to partition my drive and went ahead and installed Windows 8.1 Pro (then Windows 10 Pro via the MS upgrade). I understand that Boot Camp Assistant creates a temporary partition where all the Windows installer stuff goes and from what I read it is support to disappear and be reabsorbed into the main Mac partition once Windows is done it's installing. It is supposed to go away after you boot into OS X after the Windows install. The third partition is called OSXRESERVED and after my install, it did not go away. It's still there. I tried using Disk Utility to remove it and resize the main Mac partition but once I did that, Windows would boot anymore. I then had to start all over again which is a nightmare.

Any ideas as to why the OSXRESERVED partition didn't go away?

The BC drivers did not install properly. Can you check the Applications -> Utilities -> Console logs for any errors related to disk issues?

I don't see anything showing that any driver installation failed or there was an issue with the disk. Everything shows as a success. Is there a way to reinstall just the BC drivers?

Yes, use Apple Software Update. There are also manual methods of downloading the BC6 drivers and installing each individually.

I tried using the Apple software update on the PC side but it only comes up with iTunes and iCloud downloads. I will look into how to manually download the drivers.

I just gave up and I'm trying again. I am going to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro and patch it all the way up and then try the upgrade. Thanks for your help.

I have tried reinstalling Windows 10 multiple times using an ISO from the windows media creation tool. I even tried restoring the mac to factory settings multiple times before using bootcamp. The OSXRESERVED partition will not go away. Is there anyway to properly remove this without it affecting anything else?
