Unlocking A1457 iPhone 5S

I was told by my Chilean Operator (Movistar) that my iPhone 5S A1457 model is the European and South American one and it is not possible to be unlocked for using it with an American Operator SIM card. It is unlocked since it does work with other Chilean Operators. Is this information correct? My guess is not, since I have now a factory unlocked A1533 (American Model) and it works flawless with a Chilean Operator.

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.0.2, model A1457

maybe they are talking about gsm vs. cmda based phones ?

or if one can get 4g as some countries use different frequencies for 4g

Well, I guessed that but we were always talking about using SIM cards. Chile has no CDMA operators. What it is true is that 4G LTE are not in the same frequencies in both countries but that was not the issue.

The model number has nothing to do with the locked or unlocked status of the phone.
