Desktop woes

So, I created several new desktops to group useful apps together...

Desktop 2 - Mail and Calendar, arranged as Split View

Desktop 3 - Notes, Reminders, Dropkick and Contacts, nicely arranged to fill the screen.

Desktop 4 etc. - same sort of thing.

All the apps are set to open on log-in, and to open only in their appointed desktop.

Great... but the apps don't open and arrange themselves as-per the original desktops. I have to select each app one at a time to rebuild the desktops.

And whilst Mail and Calendar correctly open on the same Desktop, they have to be manually Split View'ed again.

It would be helpful for my carefully laid out apps to automatically appear on the correct Desktop open and ready to use - it would also be a bonus to be able to name and save Desktop arrangements.

Am I missing a check box somewhere, or has Apple not thought this through?
