Q: Mini-DVI to DVI to S-Video

Nov 10, 2006 8:59 PMby ArchUrban,like 12-inch powerbook G4, macbook has only mini port. so you should buy a mini-DVI to VGA adapter, mini-DVI to S-Video, and mini-DVI to DVI adapter fnourtunately. just go to macbook & macbook pro site. compare each side of ports. you can easily find what's different. -
Nov 11, 2006 3:24 AMby Ray Allen,HelpfulI tried to do the same thing I have a PowerBook 17" (1.67 HD screen) and wanted to not buy all new cables for the MacBook.
So I got a Mini-DVI to DVI to see if I could just use my PowerBook DVI to VGA cable, but it will not plug in, one pin is longer on the PowerBook side over the standard DVI cables use.
I would assume it's the same for the DVI-SVIDEO (didnt have the DVI-SVHS for my PowerBook)
I was thinking like you, you could maybe pigyback the cables but it's a no go.
So I just decided to buy all 3 mini-dvi cables for the MacBook, at least they will work with a Mac mini (which I may get to run my TV) but at least I was covered, I use my MacBook with VGA for a video projector some times and the S-VHS for some TV's and the DVI might get used one day.

Thanks for your response. Buying all 3 cables must have cost at least $60?!? You used a cable that came with your Powerbook. I'm still wondering whether the cable that came with my MacBook Pro is any different from the Powerbook?
Anyone tried this with MacBook Pro cables? Or are they all the same? -

Servers Enterprisecerealkiller07 has the right idea. Why bother stringing several adapters together? Just buy the one mini-DVI to video adapter. Here's a link to the Canada Apple store:
