How do I get the free upgrade for final cut pro? I keep reading online that it is free for existing users but just accidentally paid £229 at the app store and have had to cancel my order. I currently have FCP 6.0.6. Thanks.

Ask whoever told you you could get it free. I've heard no such thing.
Sorry, but there is no upgrade path from FCP 6 (or 7) to FCP X, which is an entirely different application in every way except the name.
There is a 30 day trial download so you can test it out to see whether it meets your needs.

IIt's a free upgrade for users of FCPX. To date all updates have been free once the application is purchased.
Can I revert back to my older version now that I have cancelled my purchase or is it deleted forever?
YYour older version should still be in Applications unless you deleted it. It may be in a folder called Final
Cut Studio.

You might check the Final Cut Pro 7 forum to see if anyone knows how and where you can obtain the software for version 7. Might be available on eBay. Won't be free.
