Q: Why I need a usb driver

I have a mac Mid 2010 and I buy a new disk drive and I upgrade to the os el capitan before I install windows and I don't remember that ask me for a usb flash, so my dude is Why I need a usb with 16gb to delete ? my mac still has dvd drive so what I need a usb flash?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

From How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support,

For some Mac models, you also need a blank 16 GB or larger USB flash drive

The USB is used for

1. Downloading BC Drivers, or,
2. Building a USB Installer, if you Mac supports it.

On a 2010 Mac, you will need to install Windows using your Optical drive.
