I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone. Duplicate playlists themselves shouldn't increase storage usage on your iPhone (they're just a reference list to files already on your device), but there may be a couple other things you can look at. If you are looking for more information on which specific apps or services are taking up the most storage space and things you can do to reduce it, you may find the following articles helpful:
See how much storage you've used on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
If you need more space for an iOS update - Apple Support
Delete music, movies, apps, and other content from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
You may also want to try making a backup of your current data to iTunes, then doing a full restore of iOS from iTunes and then restoring your data from the backup. This can be especially helpful if you are having freezing issues as well:
How to back up your devices using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
Use iTunes to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

Oct 25, 2015 7:46 PM in response to brenden dvby Filmnoir565,Although I haven't used all of the tips yet, I found the smartest move for me was to reduce my podcast storage, especially since I can find them easily enough later. I just needed to make more working memory for the cloud to backup and the phone to stop freezing so much until I can upgrade-- I had no idea there were so many ways to get there. Your comments were a huge help and I'm saving them! Thank you!
