Q: It is not clear when El Capitan downloads!

i have the Yosemite iMac computer which I purchased this summer! I've tried numerous times to download El Capitan but don't know if I have it as there is NO difference in any way that I can see! I've done this a number of times but there is absolutely NO way to tell if the download has been successful!

Probably your download was never completed. You can tell by opening the App Store » Purchased tab, it should be there listed with a gray button saying “downloaded”. If not download it again, you can see the download progress in Launchpad

After downloading it goes to your Application Folder. From there you need to double click on it and install it.
