How do I configure Airplay?
iMac can see receiver but 'device is unavailable'. Receiver cannot see iMac.

What kind of "receiver" are you talking about?

It is a Yamaha RN301. It used to play from the iMac but now will only work from the iPhone or the Windows laptop. Unfortunately nearly all my music is on the iMac. I have just upgraded to El Capitan but this had started before the upgrade and it hasn't helped. I should add that the Yamaha firmware claims to be up to date
Also the connection is via Ethernet / homeplug
What did Yamaha say when you contacted them and reported the problem?
