Q: My Mac thinks my Magic Trackpad 2 is a mouse - Doesn't Let me "tap" or do any gestures

I swapped out the old Trackpad for the new one and when I pair it, the Mouse icon flashes on the screen. I can use the trackpad to do basic navigating and press to click but none of the "trackpad" gestures or taps are recognized! Tried everything I can think of. Nothing.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Is your operating system as shown in your signature line? If so, this could be the issue. Apple states that the new accessories work with El Capitan (10.11) only.

I had the same problem I fixed it by downreving the software the the release version syncing the magic trackpad 2 and then upgrading the software and everything now works great. Some thing in the beta is either not recognizing the trackpad or recognizing it as a mighty mouse I had both issues. Works on multiple machines tested this fix on my 5k iMac and Macbook 13in retina pro (fully loaded) and both work perfectly now....Downgrade to the released version of El Capitan and then sync your track pad it will register properly then you can upgrade again and it will hold....
