Is El Capitan compatible with Adobe CS5?
Very intriguing, I especially like that you can buy it outright, no monthly subscription and that it's specifically Mac-based. Could
definitely be a viable option and so much cheaper. Will research, hope to find others that made the switch and can offer their
opinions on how it ranks vs PS or even LR.
That's just it – I am not really keen to take that risk, upgrading, downgrading, copying data on/off, all this switching, I know I will
screw it up somehow. And you're right, maybe it isn't Adobe's problem but it would be nice for them and Apple to at least communicate
w/ each other then alert their consumers. So unprofessional really. Yeah, reporting crash reports – what a joke. You send them and
then they go into a black hole. I don't bother anymore since they never respond.
I spoke with an Adobe engineer when I had a long term problem with CC2015 and 10.11 and asked him outright if CS6 was supported in El Cap. His response after asking him in the course of our conversation several times was to avoid the answer without so much as an "I can' answer that." or "there is no official word." he repeatedly acted as if I never asked him the question.
Yup, I learned that the hard way a long time ago. Have a WD back up drive and use SOS cloud service.
and improves Photos enough to be truly competitive with Photoshop I would gladly abandon Adobe forever.
They were not even meant to be competitive. Aperture's competition was Lightroom, not Photoshop.
Photos is simply a free replacement for iPhoto. Both are non-professional photo management software.
iPhoto, Photos, Aperture, Lightroom, are Capture One are primarily photo management software. Photoshop is primarily a photo editing software.
The part you omitted from the copy/paste/edit of my post when you asked me "how is this applicable?" is why this is applicable:
Apple has no express or implied obligation to provide any technical or other support for such software or services. Please contact the appropriate software vendor, manufacturer or service provider directly for technical support and customer service related to its software, service and/or products.

Adobe can't even communicate amongst themselves, let alone with anyone else!
Prime example, Lightroom can connect to cameras and download images all day
long, yet Adobe Bridge can't even see the camera!
Haven't looked at this latest release, but never really use it anyway
as I use Lightroom as a RAW processor and management tool.
I had only used Bridge in the past to confirm other people's
complaints of it not working. And when I did those it in fact did not
work.
Yes, agree!
Wow, well that's really telling, huh? smh
Yep, sounds about right! And the incredible irony to ALL of this is, my husband works for Adobe, albeit, their marketing division – and he complains as well. Very poor communication and little to no technical support throughout all of Adobe. They are lucky they are such an established brand, but as we've been discussing, it won't last forever.
Add me as a +1 to the customers very frustrated that El Capitan has broken CS5 compatibility. All tentpole apps crash on quit and in other places and Adobe's updater application fails to update CS5 apps. I did a clean El Capitan install and CS5 install yesterday and am dead in the water.
I'll now have to wipe, go back to Yosemite and with all the data I have to move, I've lost several days due to down time and now will lose several more.
Do not use CS5 with El Capitan.
Really sorry about all the aggravation you went through w/ this. I'm with you, as long as I continue to use CS5, I will NOT upgrade to
El Capitan.
Nor should you. Adobe has stated its not compatible. Adobe has offered an alternative which they feel is sufficient, but if you don't want to rent software and continue to se what you paid for you should keep a backup of your system in the event you need to restore it to a point where the software functions in the OS environment that it was designed to operate in and since Apple or Adobe or anyone will never intentionally fix whatever the issue is.
