Thanks, Enzo ... this worked fine for me! I copied my El Capitan's Utilities/"Disk Utility" to disk_utility2 (apps shouldn't have blanks in the names, IMNSHO đ, then copied over the Base.lproj from a Sierra version of Disk Utility, and it worked fine! Well done!
Stan
You cannot resize the window.

Congratulations on knowing how everyone in the world feels about my complaint, I'm impressed.
Apparently, neither did the moderators. đ
Wow, it looks like their are others who have the same complaint. How's that possible?
Re: El Capitan's Disk Utility Cartoonish & Lousy UX & Error 22
My thoughts are inline with the OP, however I imagine this new design fits with the current consumer range of macs with a single built in hard drive and even with a few external drives the window shouldn't become cluttered.
I however have (8) eight HDD in my Mac so this Disk Utility 'mini' is really quite awkward to use and would be much better expandable.
I do not expect this to ever be available so I will move one.
Another improvement that is really a defect. Oh well, I'm trapped with Mac for now.
Your arrogance disgusts me đ
Well, the inability to resize the window of Disk Utility in El Capitan renders El Capitan unusable.
Apple has wasted money and time on a product, only to end up with nothing.
Without a viable BackUp/Restore application, El Capitan is not an Operating System.

Mind telling how you did that, although can you expand the depth also?
grab.app (Utilities folder), capture screen
Perhaps this is what you are seeking:
1. Install El Capitan in empty partition.
2. Open Disk Utility (Utilities folder).
3. Scroll through available Drives/Partitions.
4. Select Boot partition.
5. Open grab.app (Utilities folder)
6. Take screenshots of the POS results.
Yes ?
Apple should intervene to correct the Disk Utility GUI, for respect of El Capitan users.
I copied the small folder "Disk Utility/Contents/Resources/Base.lproj" of MacOS Sierra beta and I put them in a duplicated copy of Disk Utility of El Capitan (because the MacOS Sierra version of Disk Utility does not works into El Capitan).
Now, my Utility Disc copy works very well and I can zoom-in and zoom-out the Disk Utility window, with elegance, and finally I can reading all entire names of my devices!
Even if MacOs Sierra is about to come out, it's not possible to let such a huge and ugly deficiency in El Capitan; it would be like a black mark on Apple's history!... Imagine if a Stylist (Valentino, Armani...) forgot to fix a piece of his collection!
I am a Physician Surgeon and Dentist but, apparently, no one else in the world has been able as me to do such a simple modifies, including Gurus and Nerd that they have complained of the Utility Disc GUI in many Blogs.
Unfortunately Steve Jobs died but it seems Apple does not ask to its Programmers to have sensibility, precision, elegance, style, class and a great respect to the Users that buy Apple computers despite an expensive price.
