It sounds as if you are having an issue with updating some of your iMac's apps through the Mac App Store. Is that correct?
The following article has some useful steps that may resolve this issue - Mac App Store: Cannot update App Store purchases or updates do not seem available.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best to you.

The App Store has glitches from time to time. Have you tried again today?

Oct 19, 2015 1:36 PM in response to Brett Lby jean68,Hi Brett, thanks for your reply. The next day I was able to get 2 of the updates but still get the message "This item is temporarily unavailable". Try again later. I'm trying to update iPhoto. I recently last week downloaded OS X El Capitan to my iMac and that's when I got the App notification. But now that I'm reading the fine print for the iPhoto App it says it improves the compatibility when migrating iPhoto libraries to the new Photos app in OS X Yosemite. Confusing.

You can delete the iphoto icon from your applications folder. This will stop the red dot on your App store icon.

You cannot "update" iPhoto anymore. If you have version 9.x (which came with iLife '11), then you can still get the current version using this method:
Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store
OS X will suggest updating, and the button next to iPhoto (and Aperture) say you can update, but you cannot.
What was the other App?
