Then you need to update iPhoto to version 9.6.1.
ut updating is difficult, because Apple stopped the developement of iPhoto. It is no longer sold at the App Store.
You can update iPhoto, if iPhoto is showing in your Purchases history, the fourth tab of the App Store.
If you are seeing iPhoto there, you can update by reinstalling. The "Update" button will not work. Don't click it.
Move any incompatible version of iPhoto.app you have installed from your Applications folder to the Trash (but don't empty the Trash), and then open the fourth ab of the AppStore, Purchases. Enter the key combination ⌘R to relaod the tab. Does it now show "Install" to the right of iPhoto? Then click it.
If it is still showing "Update", restart your Mac and launch theAppStore again. Click the Install button.
if you cannot update iPhoto, because you do not own an AppStore version of iPhoto, you can migrate your iPhoto Library to the new Photos.app. See: Get started with Photos for OS X - Apple Support
Photos can open iPhoto Libraries and migrate the library to the new format. It is Apple#s new photo editng application that comes with new Macs instead of iPhoto. See: How Photos handles content and metadata from iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support
