Thanks, I do have 'model identifier 3.1'; it actually says 3,1 not 3.1. I'm not familiar with 'OWC' or 'Crucial' (I live in Australia), I generally use eBay or Amazon to get RAM for my other Macs (we have six in our family plus iPhones and iPads etc!!!!). So I guess I order two 3GB chips to replace the 2GB ones installed.
I've only had this MBP for two weeks and am running typical OpenOfice/Firefox/MacMail/MaxCalendar type apps, nothing too demanding, and am already getting LOW MEMORY warnings from CleanMyMac3.
Thanks for your advice.

Oct 18, 2015 4:42 AM in response to RGMAby OGELTHORPE,★HelpfulThere are no 3 GB Ram chips available for your MBP. All you need is to replace one of the 2 GB chips with one 4 GB chip.
Make certain that the specifications are correct: 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM.
Macs are very selective when it come to RAM. Avoid bargain RAM even if they have the 'correct' specifications. In the USA, Amazon does have Crucial RAM available. I do not know if that is the case in kangaroo country.
One more piece of advice:
GET RID OF CLEANMYMAC3
It will just corrupt your MBP and you do not need it. Your Mac will run better without it. Do not install any so called 'cleaning', 'performance' or AV applications.
