Q: iPad is not responding after having charged for a couple of hours

My iPad air got a black screen after I charged it for a couples of hour - it looks like it would have turned itself off and doesn't show much of a reaction. I already tried to restart it by holding the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time with no success. Itunes sees the iPad as in recovery mode, but I couldn't restore it - it extracts the software, then it prepares the iPad for the restore, but after that get stucked in "waiting for iPad" and after a while would show an error message (4005 or 4014). I still notice that the iPad respond to some extent, because although nothing happens on the screen, I still can hear the sound in the computer that it get disconnected when I force a restart by holding the two buttons. I eventually tried to put it the DFU mode, but I'm not sure if that worked, because I can't verify if I turned off the device in order to put it in DFU mode. Any ideas? Any thoughts?

    Greetings humblestu,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are seeing errors 4005 and 4014 when restoring your iPad using your computer. To continue the troubleshooting process, please read over and work through the suggested steps in the following article.

If you see error 9, 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your iOS device

When you try to update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you might see one of these messages in iTunes.

If your iOS device disconnects during the update or restore or if iTunes couldn't tell the device to restore, you might see one of these messages:

    • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).
    • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4005).
    • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013).
    • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4014).

Try these steps to restore your iOS device:

    1. Install the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Check for updates to your Mac or PC. If you restart your computer for an update, check for updates again after you restart.
    4. Try to restore your device using another USB cable.
    5. Try to restore your device on another computer.
    6. Force your device to restart

If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you try to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, contact us.
