How do I add a Seagate 1TB Expansion hard drive to my Notebook Pro

I bought a Seagate Expansion 1TB to use as an external hard drive for backup. But now it appears it is not compatible with Mac, only with Microsoft. Is there a software that will make it compatible with my Mac?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

If the drive is formatted as NTFS, OSx will not be able to write to it.

Easiest thing to do, is to use Disk Utility (built in to OSx) and format it Mac OSx Extended Journaled for use with Mac. Of course this will mean it will not be able to be used with Windows.
