Q: HSBC card won't verify on Apple Watch

I have two cards from other banks already working on my iPhone 6s and Apple Watch.  I've recently tried adding an HSBC debit card to my devices.  The card added to both devices, but the Apple Watch won't verify.  I had to call up HSBC in order to verify, the iPhone 6s verified pretty much immediately, whilst the Apple Watch is sat waiting for verification.  I've tried adding the card to the Watch a couple of times and have been through verification a couple of times, but to no avail.

 

If I press "Select a Different Verification Option" (even though I only get the option to call), I get the error "Verification Not Available - Try again in a few minutes or contact your card issuer."  I've tried this numerous times, but there's obviously a glitch somewhere.

 

Any thoughts?

Just to keep replying to myself...

 

Seeing as Apple released watchOS 2.0.1 a few days ago, I updated and kept an eye on the verification status of the card.  This remained waiting for verification.  I called up HSBC again and they suggested the nuclear option of unpairing and setting up the watch from new.  Erm, no thanks.  So whilst on the phone to them, I asked them to remove the card from my ApplePay setup on their end, which they did.  I then had to manually remove the card from the watch (which should have automatically been removed, so there was obviously something glitched).  I then added the card again and they verified it again, and this time it became available after about five minutes.

 

So if you're having the same issue, I suggest the above before going for the nuclear option.

    Called HSBC again and this time got put through to the Apple Pay team.  Apparently there is a glitch in watchOS 2.0 that can cause the above symptoms.  Apple are aware of it and it should be fixed in the next update, supposedly 2.0.1.
