Q: WARNING! Turning on Icloud Library on Iphone corrupted photos on my iPhone

WARNING!  I was told by Apple Support this is a known issue (case 965564882) and I'm not sure why if this is a known issue, they haven't disabled this feature.

I decided to take the plunge and turn on "Icloud Photo Library" on my iPhone.

I had about 800 photos on my iPhone and was hoping this would make things easier.

I also chose "Optimize iPhone Storage"

Everything was working great, it was uploading about 200 photos a day to iCloud.

When it got to about 300 or so, it stopped and said "Updated 1 minute ago"

I checked my photo library on the iCloud, and it only had about 5 month's of photos on iCloud (up to May 9th)

When I checked my iPhone, I was surprise to see all my photos taken before May 9th thumbnails turned into gray boxes.  They have all the properties (i.e. size, date, where taken, etc) but when I click on a photo it just shows a grey picture

If I plug my phone in to a computer, and browse the photos there I get an error "0x80070057: the parameter is incorrect" (Windows 10) when I try to open a picture in Windows Explorer.  All the file properties, however, are there.

Also in a related issue, the support rep told me I could restore my previous backup and the pictures would be back.  This didn't work.  When we looked at the last backup date in iTunes, it showed October 5, 2015, however when I needed to restore, the latest backup in the list was November 2014, not sure why iTunes would report October 5 if it didn't have a backup from October 5.  Not sure where it went!

So it looks for now like I lost all pictures prior to May 9.
