Q: how to restore to yosemite from el capitan on imac mini

installed El Capitan on Imac mini, which installed and loaded to password screen, as I never set a password for Yosemite I am at a loss to go forward from login screen. I have tried searching the web for an answer, I have also tried system restore from time machine but the forums say that El Capitan will not restore and you have to use operating system discs that were shipped with the Mac, as no discs were shipped with the mini how can I go forward and use El Capitan or revert to Yosemite, any help would be appreciated

To go back:
- backup your data
- Download load the Yosemite installer. It should be listed in the Purchased section of the Mac App Store.
- Make a bootable USB media using the following:
DiskMaker X
- Boofrom that media
- Format the Yosemeite startup disk and install Yosemite
- Restore your data

Try resetting yur admin PW by:

If we are already on El Capitan, it's not possible to download from Mac App Store again Yosemite....

It is possible to re-download Yosemite if it had been purchased and downloaded previously.
It would be found in the App store under "Purchases"
