My ipod isn't recognized and it won't charged

I made a dumb move and after I plugged in my ipod and saw a strange screen that I hadn't seen before (I've since found it on the help pages)... I unplugged it and when I tried to plug it back in I have gotten nothing.
Have I irreperabley damaged my ipod? Please tell me there's a way to fix this. Thanks
